About This Painting
Girl with a Pearl Earring is an oil painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer, dated to about 1665. The work has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague since 1902, and it has gone by various names over the centuries, acquiring its present title only towards the end of the twentieth century. About Girl with a Pearl Earring
Vermeer, 1632 to 1675, specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life and is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, though in his own lifetime he was a moderately successful provincial genre painter known in Delft and The Hague who earned his living mainly as an art dealer. This painting is dated around 1665. It went by various names over the centuries and only acquired its present title towards the end of the twentieth century. It has been in the Mauritshuis in The Hague since 1902 and has been the subject of various literary and cinematic treatments, which is a large part of why it is one of the most requested reproductions we paint.
