Framed Oil Painting Reproductions

What framed means here

There is no print step. An artist paints the copy in oil, in the size you select. Once the paint has cured, the canvas goes into a wooden frame before it leaves the studio. That is the difference between framed reproduction oil paintings and a bare canvas you still have to frame yourself.

Ten mouldings, three orientations

The frame follows the shape of the painting. Vertical sizes run from 16″ × 20″ to 48″ × 72″, horizontal from 20″ × 16″ to 72″ × 48″, square from 16″ × 16″ to 60″ × 60″. The frame always matches the canvas size you chose. Ten wood mouldings are available in every orientation:

• Classic Ornate
• Minimalist White
• Minimalist Light
• Minimalist Dark
• Minimalist Black
• Modern Silver
• Modern Golden
• Modern Brown
• Modern Dark
• Modern Black

Gold framed oil paintings

Gold is the frame most people picture around an oil painting, and it is the safest choice for old masters, religious scenes, Baroque and Rococo work and anything with warm light in it. Choose Modern Golden for a clean gilt profile, or Classic Ornate for the carved, traditional look of a museum frame. Both come in every size and orientation.

Which frame for which painting

A simple rule works for most rooms: match the frame to the period of the painting and the finish to the room. Impressionist and Post-Impressionist canvases sit well in Minimalist Light or Modern Brown, which let the colour do the work. Portraits and Dutch interiors gain depth from Modern Dark or Minimalist Black. Landscapes and seascapes are forgiving; white and light mouldings keep them airy, gold makes them formal. If the painting will hang among other framed pieces, repeat one of their mouldings and the wall reads as a set.

Gallery wrap or a classic frame

The same menu holds two options that are not mouldings. Stretched mounts the canvas on a wooden stretcher with no border, the gallery-wrap look where the painting hangs as a plain rectangle. Unframed leaves the canvas without stretcher or moulding, for buyers who already work with a framer. A classic frame does the opposite: it puts a wooden border around the canvas and sets the painting off from the wall.

How to order a framed painting

Open any painting below. Pick the size first. Then use the block headed How should it arrive? (on a phone, Select a Frame (optional)). It lists Unframed, Gallery Wrap and the frames; “See more frame options” opens the rest. Painting and frame arrive in one shipment.

Time, shipping and returns

An artist needs about three weeks to paint the reproduction. Delivery takes another 3 to 10 days after it ships. Shipping is free, worldwide. Before the painting leaves the studio we send you a photo of the finished work; if something is wrong, the artist corrects it. After delivery you have 90 days to return the piece.
