Joseph Mallord William Turner, known in his time as William Turner, lived from 1775 to 1851 and was an English Romantic painter. He elevated the status of landscape painting, is considered a precursor of Impressionism, and counts among the greatest and most influential British painters. This canvas was first exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts in 1840, under the much longer title Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying, Typhon coming on. The Slave Ship is the shortened name in common use. The studio paints the composition in oil on canvas by hand, at the size you choose.
