About This Painting
Water Lilies is a series of approximately 250 oil paintings by the French Impressionist Claude Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926. The paintings depict the flower garden at his home in Giverny, and they were the main focus of his artistic production during the last 31 years of his life. Our reproduction is painted by hand in oil on canvas, not printed.
About Water Lilies
Monet founded Impressionism and is seen as a key precursor to modernism for his attempts to paint nature as he perceived it, above all in plein air landscape painting made outdoors in front of the subject. The water lilies are the largest single body of work in that long career: roughly 250 canvases of one flower garden at Giverny, made across the last 31 years of his life. Many of them were painted while he suffered from cataracts. The term Impressionism itself comes from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise, exhibited in 1874 at the First Impressionist Exhibition, which Monet initiated with a number of like-minded artists as an alternative to the Salon. Because the series is so large, tell the studio which Nymphéas you have in mind and we will confirm the composition before starting.
