Bloch was commissioned to paint twenty-three scenes from the life of Christ for the King's Chapel at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. ¹ The original paintings for Frederiksborg Castle were painted between 1865 and 1879 and are still located there. ¹ These works became some of the most famous pictures in Danish history.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has heavily used Bloch's paintings for over forty years. ¹ The Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo, Utah, acquired Bloch's painting Christ Healing at the Pool of Bethesda. ¹ BYU also purchased an 1880 grisaille version of The Mocking of Christ in June 2015. ¹

Among these, The Baptism of Christ stands out for its brilliant use of color and divine light. Bloch's altarpieces can be found in Denmark, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands. ¹ After Marstrand died, Bloch finished decorating the ceremonial hall at the University of Copenhagen. ¹ Bloch created more than 250 paintings during his career. ² He died of cancer on February 22, 1890. ¹
