Understanding Art Reproductions

What a reproduction actually is, how it differs from a print or a forgery, and what it is worth.

About these guides

A reproduction is a new painting of an existing work, made openly as a copy. That single sentence clears up most of the confusion, and this section handles the rest. What separates a reproduction from a replica, a study, a print and a forgery. Why a reproduction has no resale value as an original, and why that is not a problem for the reason most people buy one. How museums and film sets use them. What the certificate that comes with a painting is actually certifying. We are direct about all of it because the alternative is a customer discovering it later. Every canvas we sell is hand painted to order by an artist, photographed for your approval before it leaves the studio, and shipped rolled in a tube with a certificate that names it as a reproduction.
