Home Decor and Display Tips

Height, spacing, lighting and framing: the practical side of getting a painting onto a wall.

About these guides

Hanging a painting well is mostly arithmetic and a little restraint. These guides cover the parts people get wrong: the centre height that reads as correct to the eye, the gap that makes two canvases look like a pair instead of an accident, how to light a glossy oil surface without a glare band across the middle, and what to do when the wall is above a staircase or a fireplace and none of the usual rules apply. There is a section on framing too, including when a reproduction is better left unframed. Since every painting we make is hand painted to order, you can pick the size that fits the wall rather than the nearest standard. It arrives rolled in a tube, ready for stretching or framing where you choose.
