The Basket of Apples is a still-life oil painting by the French artist Paul Cézanne, which he created around 1893. The painting rejected naturalistic representation in favor of distorting objects to create multiple perspectives, which is why the objects in it do not quite line up. Our reproduction is painted by hand in oil on canvas, not printed.
Paul Cézanne, who lived from 1839 to 1906, was a French Post-Impressionist painter whose work introduced new modes of representation, influenced avant-garde artistic movements of the early twentieth century, and formed the bridge between late nineteenth century Impressionism and early twentieth century Cubism. The Basket of Apples, created around 1893, rejected naturalistic representation in favor of distorting objects to create multiple perspectives, and that approach eventually influenced other art movements, including Fauvism and Cubism. The painting belongs to the Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. The studio reproduces the composition in oil on canvas, by hand, in the size you pick.
Choose from seven sizes, with or without a frame. The oil painting is made by hand on canvas for your order, so the copy of The Basket of Apples you receive was painted after you placed it, not pulled from a shelf. A photo of the finished piece goes to you for approval first. Free worldwide shipping is included, the return window is 90 days, and the art arrives stretched and ready to hang.
