The Lady of Shalott is a subject the English painter John William Waterhouse returned to three times, in 1888, 1894 and 1915. The paintings represent Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 1832 poem of the same name, and this product follows the version titled Looking at Lancelot. Waterhouse's 1888 canvas is a representation of the ending of Tennyson's poem, and it is one of his most famous works. It adopted much of the style of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, though Waterhouse was painting several decades after the Brotherhood split up, which happened during his early childhood. He painted three versions of the character, in 1888, 1894 and 1915, so the bare title is not enough to identify a canvas, and that is why this product carries the fuller name, Looking at Lancelot.
