Luciano "Louie" Drehmer is the founder and Creative Director of Art & See, a boutique studio that hand-paints oil reproductions of museum works and custom paintings from photographs. He writes the articles on this blog.

Background

Louie grew up around painting: his mother is an expert painter, and he spent his childhood watching her work. He holds a BA in Visual Arts from the European Design Institute and is recognized as a Visual Arts Scholar. His own work has been shown in international exhibitions and art fairs, where he has also spoken on craftsmanship and the future of fine art. Before founding Art & See he served as Creative Director at Amazon and Facebook, leading global creative teams.

Why he writes about reproductions

The idea for Art & See came during an art residency in a remote village of painters, where local masters had spent decades perfecting single styles. Louie built the studio around one rule learned there: every commission goes to a painter who specializes in that exact style. The articles here come from the same place. They answer the questions collectors, students and artists actually ask about copying, buying and caring for paintings, in plain language, with the legal and technical details checked.

Editorial standard

Every article is written or reviewed by Louie. Legal questions are answered from the primary rules (copyright terms, public-domain dates) rather than opinion, and are updated when the facts change. Where an article mentions Art & See's own paintings, it says so.
