Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Oil Painting Reproductions

Bringing Montmartre to Your Walls with Toulouse-Lautrec Paintings

This collection of hand-painted oil reproductions brings the energy of historic Paris into your home. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec captured the honest, colorful world of French cabarets and theaters. If you are looking for toulouse lautrec paintings to hang on your wall, these pieces offer a window into a legendary era.

Toulouse-Lautrec was a central figure in the Post-Impressionist movement, working alongside other masters of the era. In a career of less than 20 years, he created 737 paintings on canvas, 275 watercolours, 363 prints and posters, and 5,084 drawings. ¹ His unique style was heavily influenced by the ukiyo-e genre of Japanese woodblock prints. ¹

From the Moulin Rouge to the Quiet of Parisian Rooms

The artist began exhibiting his work at the cabaret of Aristide Bruant's Mirliton in 1885. ¹ Soon, the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret reserved a seat for him and displayed his paintings. ¹ He painted the dancers and patrons of these halls with deep empathy. His mother later helped fund a museum in Albi, his birthplace, to preserve his legacy. ¹

Many of his most famous works focus on the people behind the scenes. In Alone (Elles), he captures a quiet, private moment of a woman resting on a bed. He often applied paint in long, thin brushstrokes, leaving much of the board visible. ¹ This technique gave his Parisian scenes a raw, immediate feeling.

His reach extended far beyond Paris. In 1887, he participated in an exposition in Toulouse using the pseudonym "Tréclau". ¹ The following year, Belgian critic Octave Maus invited him to present eleven pieces at the Les XX exhibition in Brussels. ¹ He also travelled to London, where he painted a portrait of Oscar Wilde in 1895. ¹

Choosing Your Toulouse-Lautrec Masterpiece

If you want a lively scene, Booth of La Goulue at the Foire du Trone (Dance at the Moulin Rouge) is a perfect choice. It shows the famous dancer La Goulue in her element. For a more intimate setting, The Two Friends offers a tender look at companionship. These works share the same expressive honesty found in paintings by Van Gogh or Paul Cezanne. Theo van Gogh even bought his painting Poudre de Riz for the Goupil gallery. ¹

Toulouse-Lautrec's art is celebrated worldwide, and his pieces are featured on lists of the most famous canvases. Today, major institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art house exceptional bodies of his work. ² Other masterpieces, like his 1892 painting of La Goulue arriving at the Moulin Rouge, are held in the Museum of Modern Art. ¹
